Kula Vyema Centre

Overview

This National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded research project is led by Rutgers University in the USA, with Cornell University (USA), University of Aberdeen (UK), African Population Health Research Center (APHRC, Kenya), G-Thamini Organization (Kenya), and Kula Vyema Centre as the collaborators.  The project has the overarching goal of reducing nutrition insecurity and malnutrition among adolescents in LMICs through carefully co-designed food systems interventions. It will use a systems science approach to characterize local food environments and food choice drivers in Kenya. Using a combination of innovative participatory methods, quantitative empirical data, and systems modelling, it will work in informal and formal settlements in Nairobi to prioritize locally appropriate, feasible, and acceptable interventions. It will engage 700 adolescents and their families through schools in Mukuru settlement in Nairobi.
