The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) contracted KVC to conduct this Kenya baseline study under the Mastercard Foundation project on “Evaluating the impact of digital tool integration on agricultural outcomes, youth employment, and gender inequality in Kenya’s potato value chain”. KVC will conduct individual-level quantitative data among 150 Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) and agripreneurs and household-level quantitative data among 1,500 to 1,650 farmers (with equal split between the three groups described below) using a survey instrument programmed for Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing. The study will follow a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design with three groups:
G1: FtMA villages with Business Development Entrepreneurship and Coaching (BDEC)-trained FSCs
G2: FtMA villages with non-BDEC trained FSCs
G3: Pure control non-FtMA (Farmer to Market Alliance) villages.
Qualitative data will be gathered through key informant interviews (KIIs) with Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) and focus group discussions (FGDs) with community groups engaging in potato production
